According to football journalist Romano, 39-year-old Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has decided to leave Chelsea at the end of this season.

Since joining Chelsea, Thiago Silva has at times been viewed as a "retirement player" attracted by the high wages of the Premier League. 

However, over the past few seasons, he has been one of the most efficient and consistent performers in the team.

Considering his performance, a one-year contract extension would have been a reasonable choice.

However, with Chelsea's current inconsistent results and Thiago Silva approaching 40 years old, it is understandable that both parties could not reach an agreement on a contract extension.
