Barcelona's signing of Lewandowski proven to be a failure!

Before the El Clásico, Robert Lewandowski made a bold statement: "We know how to beat Real Madrid!"

However, after the game, he was left disappointed.

Currently, Barcelona trails Real Madrid by 11 points in the La Liga standings, with their title prospects looking bleak.

He didn't contribute any goals or assists, and his shot attempts, key passes, and successful dribbles were all zero. 

According to WhoScored, he received a rating of only 6.3, one of the lowest in the match.

The Daily Sport gave Lewandowski a rating of 6, describing his performance as average, with poor form and inadequate intensity, leading to his substitution by Ferran Torres at the end of the game.

This isn't the first time Lewandowski has faltered in crucial matches.

In the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Paris Saint-Germain, he played 180 minutes across both legs without scoring or assisting a goal.

Particularly in the second leg, his errors were notable, with 8 failed touches and easily being outplayed by opponents.

It's evident that Lewandowski's form is declining. As a soon-to-be 36-year-old veteran, his endurance, agility, and fighting spirit are not what they used to be during his time at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

In the current Champions League season, Lewandowski has played 9 games and scored only 3 goals, a clear indication of his struggles. 

In comparison, Kylian Mbappé (8 goals), Harry Kane (7 goals), and Antoine Griezmann (6 goals) have performed much better.

The contrast between Lewandowski and Bellingham is significant

On the La Liga top scorer chart, Lewandowski has played 29 games and scored 13 goals, significantly behind the leaders Dovbyk (Girona, 18 goals) and Bellingham (17 goals).

Barcelona invested €45 million to sign Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, but this signing has not lived up to expectations.

Barca regret to signing Lewandowski?

Now, Barcelona faces a dilemma: keeping Lewandowski will result in a significant wage burden, while letting him leave may only see him join a Saudi Arabian club, which he may be reluctant to do.

If Barcelona continues to rely on Lewandowski as their core player next season, they may struggle to achieve better results in the Champions League and face even greater challenges in La Liga, especially with Kylian Mbappé joining Real Madrid.
