The English Football Association has officially announced that 23-year-old Italian national team player Tonali, who plays for Newcastle, has been given an additional two-month ban for violating betting regulations. Despite joining Newcastle last summer, he continued to place bets on football matches 50 times.
Additional 2-months banned given!
Although Tonali has been given an additional two-month suspended ban, Newcastle officials have confirmed that he will return to professional football on August 27, 2024, after the original 10-month ban period.

Will it affect the squad depth of Newcastle?
In August of last year, Newcastle spent a whopping €70 million to bring him in from AC Milan, and he played 12 games for the team, scoring 1 goal.

However, in October of the same year, Tonali was involved in a betting scandal with Juventus player Fagioli.

Ultimately, Tonali was banned for 10 months by the Italian Football Association, with an additional 8 months of alternative provisions (gambling rehabilitation + at least 16 face-to-face hearings), and fined €20,000.
With Tonali being banned, he will also miss out on representing the Italian national team at this summer’s European Championship.
